West Village Mentor Series: Insights and Inspiration
September 21, 2022

Last month, our team hosted the August Mentor Series, featuring Go Takagi, Senior Development Manager for Sekisui House Australia. Designed to foster growth and knowledge-sharing, the Mentor Series provides our team and invited guests with specialist insights across the property development sector.

This session offered a unique opportunity to walk through the West Village development site, an innovative and meticulously crafted heritage village in Brisbane’s West End. Blending retail, commercial, and residential spaces, the site showcases a harmonious balance between historical preservation and contemporary urban living.

Learning from the Experts

During the site tour, Go Takagi and fellow Sekisui House Development Manager, Dylan van Hoffen, shared invaluable insights into the project.

Key topics included:

  • Heritage and Community Engagement - They highlighted the importance of preserving the site’s heritage and their thoughtful approach to engaging with the local community throughout the development process.
  • Sustainability and Community Design - The West Village project is designed to create a vibrant, sustainable community that integrates seamlessly across corporate, residential, and retail sectors.
  • Site Acquisition and Negotiation - Go and Dylan provided a detailed overview of the acquisition history and negotiation strategies that brought the West Village project to life.
  • Feasibility and Construction Challenges - Attendees gained insight into the property feasibility and construction program challenges faced during the project, as well as the strategies used to overcome them.
  • Stakeholder Communication - They discussed how their team manages project updates and maintains transparent communication with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Peer Learning and Collaboration

As development management consultants, we strongly believe in a peer-led approach to learning. The insights shared by Go and Dylan not only deepened our understanding of the West Village project but also underscored the value of thoughtful planning, sustainability, and community-focused design.

Beyond project details, the mentors generously shared their career journeys, personal values, and perspectives, inspiring everyone present.
